We are currently looking for a Consolidation & IFRS Manager - Mechelen, BE



Scope of the role

As IFRS & Consolidation Manager at Galapagos, you will play a key role in ensuring accurate and timely external financial reporting in compliance with regulatory requirements. You will play a major role in external regulatory filings with Belgian and US financial market regulators (FSMA and SEC), including quarterly press releases, half-year reporting in accordance with IAS 34, and the annual reports including 20-F.
Additionally, you will be in charge of technical accounting activities related to complex and non-recurring transactions, ensuring adherence to accounting standards. Your responsibilities will also include executing and documenting internal controls associated with the reporting process and serving as a key liaison with external auditors.


Your role
The position will have the following key responsibilities:

  • Manage external regulatory filings with Belgian and US financial market regulators, ensuring compliance with reporting requirements.
  • Perform contract analysis, provide guidance, and draft management accounting position papers on complex transactions and maintaining compliance with IFRS accounting standards.
  • Execute, document, and update internal controls associated with the reporting process to ensure accuracy and reliability of financial information.
  • Serve as a key liaison with external auditors, facilitating financial audit processes and addressing any audit-related inquiries.
  • Collaborate extensively with cross-functional teams, including Investor Relations, Legal, Communications and other stakeholders, to support reporting activities and address any reporting-related issues.
  • Play an active role in preparing the quarterly and annual consolidation of the group.
  • Monitor and ensure timely identification and compliance with evolving IFRS standards and create and maintain comprehensive group accounting policies.

Demonstrate a willingness to learn and adapt to organizational change and increasing complexity.

Job requirements

Who are you?

  • Master’s degree (degree in finance, economics, business administration), bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field; CPA or equivalent certification.
  • Extensive experience in financial reporting and technical accounting, preferably in a regulated industry (or combined with an experience in audit)
  • Strong understanding of IFRS and SEC reporting requirements.
  • Proven ability to manage external regulatory filings and interact with financial market regulators.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong analytical skills. Ability to analyze agreements and derive the critical terms driving accounting treatment. Detail oriented and ability to work and interpret figures and other financial information.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English and Dutch and/or French.
  • Biotech experience is a plus.
