We are looking for our Director, Publications and Medical Communications, Oncology.
Scope of the job
This role involves developing and executing global publication and scientific communication strategies for Oncology and Cell Therapy programs across various formats such as manuscripts, congress presentations, and medical materials. The Director will lead these efforts while collaborating with internal teams and external partners including researchers, publishers, and agencies. They will ensure all communications align with scientific standards, legal requirements, and ethical practices.
Your role
This role is responsible for developing and maintenance of rolling 18-month strategic global publications plan. This role will work closely with other functions and departments, including Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Clinical Operations, research, Translational Sciences, and external collaborators to develop and implement the medical communications strategy. Success in this role will be measured by the impact of publication plan.
Partner and influence cross-functional teams including Clinical Development, Medical Strategy, Translational Sciences, Data Science and Biostatistics, and R&D to develop and execute annual Integrated Publications plan and budgeting activities, while maintaining the governance framework, driving alignment, decisions, and actions, in addition to escalating risks.
Prepare and lead regular publication team meetings, aligning with goals set by the Medical and CDT Strategy Teams
Main point of contact communicating with external authors for the development, review, and approval of publications, including the management of publication steering committees.
Developed metrics for publication and communications activities to help guide future investment and focus.
Manage the publications process for review, approval, and submission/presentation of publications. Ensure that all publication activities are of high scientific and medical quality and meet Good Publication Practices standards, align with SOPs, and are documented appropriately.
Provide close oversight of publications budget in fiscal management systems to ensure best practices, transparency, and compliance and appropriate spending of to address highest priority areas.
Ensure high scientific quality, alignment with clinical and medical strategy and adherence to compliance/legal requirements including, ICMJE, GPP, and other industry publication guidelines.
Ensure that vendors are trained to comply with company SOPs, company systems and tools while managing all vendor partners to execute the tactical plan for assigned projects.
Bring subject matter expertise in discussions regarding the creation or updates to departmental SOPs improving/modifying processes and procedures helping to achieve organizational goals.
Job requirements
Who are you ?
Advanced degree: PharmD, PhD, MD in biomedical discipline or master’s degree with record of accomplishment in publication or scientific communication management in Oncology.
Direct publications management experience is required. Experience in Cell Therapy or Heme-Onc strongly preferred. Certification as Medical Publication Professional (CMPP) is desirable.
10+ years of pharmaceutical/Biotech industry experience, the majority of which in roles medical publications in a matrix structure, in Medical Affairs or Clinical Development
Demonstrates the ability to navigate and succeed in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with a high degree of collaboration and teamwork. Proven experience in aligning region and country specific priorities.
Strong knowledge in publications/scientific communications, including good publication practices and industry guidance, including GPP3, ICMJA, PhRMA, and other guidance related to scientific data communication and transparency.
Demonstrates a growth mindset and stays current on latest developments and competitive landscape in the therapeutic area, particularly within oncology and cell therapy.
Experience with current publication practices and proficient and knowledge in publication or medical communication review management software/systems

Base compensation for this position ranges from $150,000 to $280,000. Actual base compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors including experience, qualifications, job-related knowledge, demonstrated skills and geographic location. The company reserves the right to modify base salary ranges at any time.
In addition, this position is eligible for participation in both Galapagos’ performance bonus plan and long-term incentive program. We offer comprehensive and generous benefits and programs to help our colleagues lead healthy lives and to support important moments in life.
